Buckhorn 2, Fishing Expedition July, 2008

Kelsey working the Fence river in the gorgeous UP. It appears as though he knows what he's doing.

Kelsey and G-man on the Big Two Hearted.

" Seriously, G-man you could go inside, close the door and make a phone call. No, you could call anyone."

Hudson and G-man at the Big Two Hearted.

Our simple objective......

Mostly Huge Fish

Kelsey's "Keeper Splake". So G-man how many times did we hear he caught a keeper splake? 50, 150, 1000? Actually, it's a pretty nice 12.01 inch keeper. It would be small of me to mention my three splake totalled nearly 25 inches of fish. That's more than two feet!

Ready for anything, really.

Holy shit, now that's a big ass fish! I was able to catch this beauty on an ultra light rig, (a pole that would, in actual fact, be broken with 48 hours, scary), 4 lb test line, no steel leader and a really sore shoulder. If Hemingway were alive, that is to say not turned a 12 gauge on himself, the stupid frig, well let's just say seeing this fish he'd have been inspired to something really, really important. Maybe change the world, who knows...

O.K., for the record I did alter this image just a bit. Nothing to confuse the real issue which is that I did actually catch this monstrous pike, with barely little help from Kelsey, he had a net or some such thing. I did, for instance, change the lighting but only to correct the mood and enhance the image. But, in no way did that alter the fact that this was the first pike caught and that all subsequent large pike landed came after this beauty. So Kelsey, G-man, "you're welcome, glad to help, always willing to shine some light on what can be, to encourage you both to think larger than you were". Seriously, don't mention it, I know following just can't feel the same as leading.

Camp Life

Great shot, -- considering what I had to work with.

Hard at work inflating Kelsey's tube, always giving, giving, giving.

Still Giving!, Crap, why can't you have a regular tube like G-man and me?

Somebody had to feed those two. I threw together robusto sweet Italian sausage with Gruyere and baby patty pan squash stuffed tortellini. Kelsey brought pop tarts.

Preparation. Kelsey was actually helping me with my knots but I decided to cut him out of the photo just for the hell of it.

Like any proper hostess, no matter how hard a day, Kelsey was absolutely insistent we not mess with his cocktail hour. Honestly, I was thinking we'd just grab a six-pack but he had all those pretty umbrellas in his tackle box.

Sooo, when G-man and I were sleeping you were out doing a little shopping. Just thinking a head right? Next time remember to remove the price tag for crying out loud.

Before and after shot of G-man's huge pike....obviously this is the before shot. "Behind you buddy".

And, this would be the after shot. Great job landing that fish. 32 inches on ultra light rig with four lb test line and no steel leader. But, I think his shoulder is fine.

I'm sure you've all heard the tall tale of Kelsey's "18 inch" smalley, bla, bla, bla. Luckly, I just happen to have remembered to take this tape from his sewing kit when he he'd one too many of his famous umbrella drinks. Photographic evidence is always extremely helpful in separating fact from fiction.

After Kelsey's "smalley" I just didn't have the heart to tell him about this little gem. Fact is I caught two of these and quickly trained the other one to take this picture. I knew I'd be needing some evidence.

Two hardy fisherman braving the elements. And, trust me, these two could seriously use some brushing up on the basic elements of fishing, bada bing!

Kelsey's "18 inch" smalley, 'nuff said.

The gorgeous mouth of The Big Two Hearted river, 52 degrees and lots of fog rolling in. We didn't catch anything but I did break my pole.

G-man at the Fence river. Probably one of the more picturesque rivers in the UP.

Nearly perfect Yeti tracks, across the sandy two-track up by the ELF line, just prior to Kelsey stomping on them.

Something tells me we can learn alot from these guys, I know Kelsey did.
